Toru Nishijima

Born in Tokyo in 1973. He began playing violin at age five and took up the bass in high school. With jazz and Argentine tango as his foundation, he has participated in recordings and concerts with many artists including Chie Ayado, Lisa Ono, Carmen Maki, Ryota Komatsu, Taro Hakase, Tamasaburo Bando, and Pablo Ziegler, as well as a wide range of theatrical and musical productions.
He is currently a member of Shintaro Mieda's Orquesta de la Esperanza, Natsuki Kido Quinteto, Atsuki Yoshida's Emo strings, Naoki Kita trio, and Hitomi Nishiyama Trio, performing across a broad spectrum of genres centered on the live music scene.
In 2014, he released the album El retratador with pianist Masaki Hayashi. In 2018, he released the solo bass album Phenomenology. In 2021, he released Hoshi wo Kogu Mono with the group Remboato (Kazuma Fujimoto on guitar, Sumire Kuribayashi on piano, Shinya Fukumori on drums). In 2024, he released Kasokeki Toki as leader, alongside Kanon Aonami (saxophone) and Fumi Endo (piano).
